Two suspects in ECape court for alleged rape of girl, 17

The girl allegedly knew her attackers and identified them to police, who later arrested the duo.

Police in the Eastern Cape have have said that two men were expected to appear in the Dutywa Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in connection with the rape of a 17-year-old girl.

The suspects, aged 19 and 20 years, were arrested at Njakazi Locality in Chizela Village on Monday, police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said.

“It is alleged that the victim was going home with a group of other girls on Saturday 06 August 2016 at about 20:00. The girls met the two suspects who grabbed the 17-year-old victim,” said Manatha.

“Both suspects allegedly took turns in raping the victim. They were disturbed by the light of the oncoming vehicle.”

The two suspects fled the scene, but Manatha said the girl knew her attackers and identified them to police, who later arrested the duo.
