No arrests have been made after five armed men ambushed and attempted to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle in the north-east of Pretoria at the weekend, reports Pretoria East Rekord.

Shots were fired when the five attackers disarmed a cash-in-transit officer while he was dropping off cash at the Big Tree Mall in Cullinan on Saturday, said police.

Spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said investigations were ongoing.

He said the five men were travelling in several cars and ambushed the security officer as he entered the mall.

“They quickly disarmed the guard and attempted to take the suitcase filled with cash.”

Makhubela said the security guard hit a panic button and the attackers opened fire immediately.

No one was injured and the attackers fled with the security guard’s firearm, leaving the cash behind.
