Cape Town City goalkeeper Shuaib Walters believes his side will surprise a lot of teams in the Absa Premiership next season, much like the Santos squad that won the league back in 2000.

Walters was one of the original 15 players that remained with the team after John Comitis bought the Mpumalanga Black Aces franchise at the end of last season.

Walters joined the defunct Amaziyoni last season from Maritzburg United, making Cape Town City his third team in as many seasons.

The former United shot-stopper believes they can emulate the Santos team that won the league in 2000 as a minor side in the league challenging for the title with favourites such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I think the boss and coach has assembled a good team, its a competitive team, to be honest I see that Santos team that won the league. We have good fighters, I do think its an interesting time for us, we have players that don’t want to lose.”
