A popular eatery at the Kolonnade shopping mall, north of Pretoria, has allegedly been robbed by two men.

Spur CEO Pierre van Tonder said the suspects fled with cash after the incident at one of their branches on Sunday, Rekord North reported.

“Two men walked into our Panarotti’s outlet in the Kolonnade around 9:30pm and pointed a gun at our staff. They forced open a safe and took about R6 000,” Van Tonder said.

The robbers made their getaway in a car they hijacked outside the restaurant.

The police were not immediately able to confirm the crime.

Residents took to social media after they heard gunshots around the area. According to some of the residents about eight gunshots or more were fired in the alleged shootout between police and robbers.

Kolonnade said it would send a statement on the alleged robbery.
