Football fest for KZN fans

KwaZulu-Natal fans are set for a football festival next weekend when all six professional teams in the province will be involved in a two-day tournament, the Premier’s Cup.

The annual tournament is set for August 13 and 14, with four National First Division (NFD) teams, Kings United, Royal Eagles, AmaZulu and Thanda Royal and two Absa Premiership teams, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United taking part. The organisers have said there will be free entrance, and the games will be held at uMhlathuze Sports Complex, in Richards Bay on the weekend of August 13 and 14.

The four NFD teams will play a preliminary round on Saturday, August 13, and the two winners will then qualify for the semifinals where they will play against the two Premiership teams the following day.

Saturday, August 13

Game 1: Royal Eagles v Kings United, at 11.30am
Game 2: Thanda Royal Zulu v AmaZulu, at 1.30pm

Sunday, August 14 

Game 3: Maritzburg United v Winner Game 2, at 9am

Game 4: Winner Game 1v Golden Arrows, at 11.30am

Game 5 (Final):  Winner Game 3 v Winner Game 4 at 3pm
