Mbalula says the reports are based on lies and a “dirty politics” campaign which is influenced by the Democratic Alliance (DA). Jordaan is said to have hired attorney Anthony Norton and senior advocate Gilbert Marcus to defend him in the US Federal Bureau of Investigations’ (FBI) probe of a 2010 FIFA World Cup bribery scandal which implicated SAFA and Local Organising Committee (LOC) members.
‘‘This thing has got nothing to do with the FIFA issues‚” Mbalula tells the Sowetan. ‘‘It has got everything to do with the dirty politics that the opposition‚ the DA in particular‚ keeps spewing out.
‘‘If there is a warrant of arrest for Danny‚ it would not be a secret. In fact‚ the FBI would use the necessary official channels between the two countries — SA and the US. The sensationalism and the timing of this thing has got everything to do with bad-mouthing Danny as a credible candidate of the ANC in the Nelson Mandela Metro.”
