ANC takes lead in Tshwane, closes in on Joburg

The DA was slipping into second Joburg and its hopes of an outright majority dwindled further in Nelson Mandela Bay.

At just after 4pm, with slightly less than 50% of the Tshwane vote counted, the ANC finally took the lead in the count in the capital city and surrounds. Neither the DA nor the ANC looked set to win a clear majority at that stage.

In Joburg, with just 39% of the vote tallied, the DA’s lead was as slender as it gets. It is expected to also lose its lead as soon as bigger counts from places such as Soweto come in.

The DA’s majority had also slipped in Nelson Mandela Bay, to less than 50% with about 80% of the votes tallied.
