DA leader Mmusi Maimane on Thursday said he was delighted with the results streaming in from different parts of SA following the local government elections yesterday.
“We have shown some incredible growth in these elections and we are quite excited about that. We also see that in the metros we targeted – we have seen some excellent results in Tshwane communities like Mamelodi. In Johannesburg we have seen some very good growth and we’re still feeling buoyant and confident in the Nelson Mandela Bay,” Maimane told reporters at the Independent Electoral Commission’s national results operations centre in Tshwane.
“We also want to celebrate that in the City of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille has increased our majority there. This shows that where we govern, people actually recognise that the DA gives the best offer for basic services, the ability to create work for South Africans and ultimately we don’t have a track record of corruption.”
Maimane said even though it was still early days, with results were still trickling in, the DA was “excited”.
“We feel that this has been a very important election. It has been a historic election and it shows that ultimately when you put the offer before the people of South Africa about jobs, the delivery of basic services and ending corruption – people come out to vote. Preliminarily, we are feeling quite excited, very positive and buoyed by the results,” said Maimane.
“So far, I’m quite excited. In the Nelson Mandela Bay we are winning in communities which we previously didn’t have support in. Like any other leader, the (IEC) scoreboard there is a big reflection on any leader,” said Maimane.
