The five men were burnt beyond recognition.

Five men burned to death when their vehicle caught fire after it hit a traffic light and overturned in Centurion, Gauteng, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, reports the Centurion Rekord.

Their charred bodies were found inside the vehicle on the corner of Botha Avenue and Cantonment Road in Lyttelton, said police spokesperson Captain Collette Weilbach.

She said emergency services took hours to extinguish the blaze to remove the bodies.

“The five men were burnt beyond recognition,” she said.

Police had opened a culpable homicide docket and were investigating.

Weilbach said police needed the public’s help to identify the five men.

The Hyundai I-20 in the crash turned out to have belonged to a woman from Randburg.

“Anyone with information or with loved ones who did not return home from an evening in Centurion could call investigating officer Warrant officer Louis Jordaan on 082-382-2471.”
