A worrying more than 50 teenage pregnancies over the past 18 months recorded in Newcastle has shocked KZN’s Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo during his recent visit in the Mndozo area, Newcastle Advertiser reports.

The MEC received the damning statistics during an official opening of a clinic in the Mndozo township area on July 28, with records showing the fathers were all older than 28.

Some of the girls are said to be 13 years old, with some aged 17.

MEC Dhlomo said this was not something the community should be happy about.
