As he was home alone watching TV at 10.55am, he was surprised by robbers who had entered the house, Springs Advertiser reports.
Springs police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora says the teenager claims he could hear the suspect unplugging the TV and some noise from other parts of the house.
“The suspect was talking English to someone else in the house, which made the teenager believe there was more than one suspect,” says Ramphora.
The teenager removed the blanket and called for help when he realised it was quiet in the house.
When his mother arrived at home she noticed the front door and security door had been forced open. Ramphora says the mother noticed the house was ransacked when she entered, but was relieved that her son was safe.
The suspects took a TV, Playstation, laptop, cellphone and headphones. The value of the stolen goods is estimated to be R37 000.
A case of house robbery was opened at the police.
The police are urging the community to assist them with the investigation.
