Police in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal held a cordon and search operation in the CBD last Friday afternoon and were successful in arresting three individuals, aged 32, 35 and 38, Ladysmith Gazette reports.
The first suspect was arrested in the taxi rank when he was found to be in possession of 16 full tablets and 2 half tablets of what is suspected to be heroin. The tablets had an estimated street value of around R1 000.
A 38-year-old female suspect was arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence. She was found in possession of 14 quarts of beer valued at R160.
While these arrests were being made, the third suspect was being chased by other officers.
It is alleged that the man had broken into a vehicle and was in the process of selling items he had stolen from the car. He was pointed out to officers who were in the area, and tried to evade arrest.
He was chased and arrested, after which the stolen items (tools) were recovered.
The suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday).
