Paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle.

A man aged in his 30s was killed when a truck and car collided on the R501 about 3km outside Carletonville in Gauteng in the early hours of Saturday morning, paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 1.30am and found a wrecked car on the side of the road. A truck was also found parked on the side of the road, spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“On assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on [the] scene.

Rescue services had to later use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the dead from the car. The driver of the truck was uninjured. The cause of the accident was not yet known, Meiring said.
