The Hawks have arrested two young men in connection with the robbery at Simon’s Town naval base last weekend, the elite unit said on Friday.
“In a joint operation on Thursday morning between members of the Hawks’ Crimes Against State (CATS) and Crime Intelligence Units, two suspects, aged 18 and 21, were swiftly arrested in relation with their suspected involvement in the Naval base burglary in Simon’s Town over the weekend,” spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said.
He said the Hawks followed up on investigations and leads, and arrested the men in Steenberg.
They seized army equipment allegedly stolen during the burglary.
Major General Nombuso Khoza, provincial head of the DPCI in the Western Cape, expressed her gratitude to the members, Ramovha said.
The suspects will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges of housebreaking and theft. More charges are likely to be added.
