A 35-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison, for sexually assaulting and raping his 33-year-old wife, the Newcastle Advertiser reports.
“In May 2010, an argument occurred between the suspect and his wife. He left the house, but returned later while the victim was asleep.”
According to police reports, the accused raped and sexually assaulted her by attempting to insert canned food into her private parts. A case of rape and assault was opened at the Newcastle Police Station, and the docket was transferred to the FCS unit for thorough investigation.
The accused was arrested and police noticed the suspect was already a wanted suspect.
“Through fingerprints, the man was linked to a murder case which had occurred in the area.”
The suspect appeared in the Newcastle Regional Court on July 26 and was sentenced to seven years behind bars for his involvement in the murder case, in addition to the rape sentence.
