Former Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Platinum Stars and Polokwane City defender Punch Masenamela started his trial with Free State Stars today as he looks to revive his ailing football career.

Also trying his luck at Stars is former AmaZulu and University of Pretoria centre-back Willem Mwedihanga.

“Yes, it’s true that Punch and Willem are training with Stars. It’s too early to tell if they’re going to be signed by the club,” a source close to Stars told Phakaaathi.

Meanwhile, the source also revealed that captain Paulus Masehe and midfielder Danny Venter have returned to the club.

“Paulus is no longer going to Maritzburg and Danny has also decided against joining (Bloemfontein) Celtic, so they’re back training with the team.”

Stars are in the process of rebuilding their team after selling their players to Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates during a failed attempt to sell the club to Moroka Swallows.

Earlier today, Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed that the sale of Stars will no longer happen after the consortium led by Gauteng MEC for Education Panyanza Lesufi withdrew their offer.
