A baby has died in a fire while her mother was at a neighbour’s house, Randfontein Herald reports.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the blaze occurred in Zenzele. The mother allegedly left her baby daughter sleeping in her shack while she went to a neighbour’s house. When the mother returned, the shack was on fire and the baby had burned to death.
Emergency Management Services responded, but had to declare the baby dead on scene.
Ernst said the cause of the fire was not yet known and was currently being investigated.
“The body was removed to a government mortuary and an inquest is under way,” Ernst said.
