Imagine starting your professional career at the country’s biggest stadium and in the country’s biggest game.

That is what awaits young Kaizer Chiefs striker Emmanuel “Adebayor” Letlotlo if he gets selected to come on as a substitute in Saturday’s Carling Black Label Champion Cup against Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, at FNB Stadium in a game set for a 3.30pm start.

Although Saturday’s game is not an official match, Letlotlo is relishing the chance of taking part in it, especially because players who play in it are selected by the fans through a voting system.

“It will be a difficult game … if I get selected, it would mean I begin my senior career with a big game,” said Letlotlo.

The 20-year-old was top goal scorer in the PSL’s developmental league, the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC), with eight goals, was promoted to the senior team at Amakhosi in June.

He said he knows he made it to the senior team through hard work, and promised to continue giving his best.

“Pre-season preparations have been hard,” he said. “We had to work really hard and we are now ready and waiting for the season to start. I am happy to be at Chiefs, I thank the coach for trusting me. I worked hard to get here,” he said.

“The senior players have advised me not to put myself under pressure just because I am with the senior team now. They said I should play my normal game. Playing under Steve (Komphela, the Chiefs coach) has been great because he understands us as youngsters and allows us to play.”

Letlotlo knows that the team will be under pressure to bring home some silverware next season after failing to annex anything last term.

“My wish is for us to win at least two cups … that should be a good achievement for us.”
