EFF leader Julius Malema received a hero’s welcome in the Winnie Mandela informal settlement, Tembisa on Wednesday morning. He visited the area following a tornado which ravaged several homes on Tuesday, including the local Phumulani Mall.
Locals appeared to have momentarily forgotten about the after effects of the freaky weather conditions which left a trail of destruction as soon as they saw the EFF leader. Many of them took pictures with him using their cellphones. Prior to Malema’s arrival, many residents were still reeling in shock, with some trying to salvage the little that was left behind by the raging tornado. One of the residents whose shack was completely destroyed, Phindile Hlongwane, said she was already on her way home from work when she received a call for her to quickly rush home.
“When I got home, I found everything gone, including my bed and all electrical appliances. I don’t even have clothes any more,” a distraught Hlongwane told The Citizen. Meanwhile, officials from the Gauteng provincial government led by Premier David Makhura are also in the area.
