A group of people walking from a shopping center were stopped by the suspects, who grabbed the victim, police say.

Two male beggars have been arrested following the rape of a 17-year-old Bedfordview resident, Bedfordview and Edenvale News reports.

According to the spokesperson for the Bedfordview police, Warrant Officer Mduduzi Nhlabathi, a group of people walking from a shopping center were stopped by the suspects who grabbed the victim.

“While others ran to look for help, the complainant ran towards the suspects to see where they were taking the victim and called the police,” said Nhlabathi.

He said upon arrival, the police found the victim half naked and wrapped in a white sheet.

“She was disorientated,” said Nhlabathi.

The case was allocated to Detective W/O William Madisha and Constable Malesela Ledwaba.

Madisha attributed the success to team work.

“Information obtained by Constable Ledwaba led us to the main suspect who was nabbed in Daveyton. The other suspect was present when the crime took place,” said Madisha.

Nhlabathi said the suspects are 25 and 26 years old. He said they were well-known beggars who usually stand along Nicol Road.

At the time of going to press, both suspects were still in custody.
