A five-year-old boy is in a critical condition after an accident on the N1 near Pyramid, Pretoria North Record reports.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the accident happened at about 04:55.
Botha said reports from the scene indicated that a truck had lost a load of vegetables across the roadway.
“A vehicle carrying two adults (a male and female) and two children (aged five and 10) slid on the road and overturned,” he said.
“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the roadway littered with the vegetables, accident debris and the twisted frame of the vehicle.”
After treating the two adults and 10-year-old girl, medics went in search of the five-year-old boy.
Botha said paramedics and firemen searched for the boy for an hour.
The boy had been ejected from the vehicle and medics found him 30 meters above the roadway on a bridge.
Botha said the two children and adult female were in a critical condition while the male miraculously only suffered minor injuries.
They were taken to hospital for further medical care.
