Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but the man had already died.

An inquest docket has been opened after a 34-year-old man in his 30s was found burnt beyond recognition in Kempton Park, East Rand.

Police spokesperson Jethro Mtshali said the man was found in the backroom of a house on Kempton Road, on Sunday, Kempton Express reported.

The fire department was dispatched to the scene after receiving a call about a fire between 9am and 10am.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but the man had already died.

A photograph provided to Kempton Express by the police, which is too graphic to publish, shows the man in a forward position, as if he had been trying to escape.

Just behind him is a burnt out bed, with only the springs of the mattress remaining.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and investigations continue.
