South Africans warned to brace for snow, rain

Temperatures around the country have plummeted, with Newcastle recording the lowest temperature at 5 °C on Monday.

The SA Weather Service has issued a warning on Monday, saying morning snowfall was expected in the central and eastern parts of the country, and in particular the high-lying areas of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Eastern Cape and Free State.

Speaking with African News Agency (ANA), senior forecaster Vanetia Phakula said South Africans must expect heavy rainfall across the country until Wednesday.

“Southwestern [areas] of Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Eastern Cape and North West are expected to have the most heavy rainfall and need to take safety precautions,” warned Phakula.
