One man died after poor visibility caused by veldfire smoke led to collisions involving several vehicles, including two trucks.

A man in his 40s was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the R21 near Pomona Road in Kempton Park, Gauteng, on Saturday afternoon, Kempton Express reported.

A veldfire next to the highway resulted in poor visibility, leading to several vehicles, including two trucks, ramming into one another.

Chitra Bodasing of ER24 said the man, who was trapped in his car, was declared dead by ER24 paramedics following the pileup.

All other patients were treated and transported to hospital by other services.

Another accident occurred opposite the airport on Saturday morning when a truck overturned. No further details are available.
